This is an update on what is happening with the call committee that was put together at our annual meeting in January. One of the pieces of new business was the consideration of putting out a call to Dan Ruth so that he could become ordained by a church and then proceed with doing an innovative ministry to people on the fringes of the church. This would be much like we how support our missionaries in Ecuador. Some of you have probably met him, heard him preach in the past, or heard his presentation at council. Calling him to Spirit of Christ would be a supportive ministry in prayer, a home base and a spiritual home as he would work with the homeless, people on the edge, the confused, the young and the old who live on the street.
This also fits in with our community ministry, our vision of reaching out to those on the margins. In order for him to be ordained, to give the sacraments and teach the word, Spirit of Christ is considering this unique call and affirmation of his gifts through our vision. This process currently has the blessing of the bishop, the Minneapolis Area Synod office, and Dan has been approved for ordained ministry by Luther Seminary and the ELCA.
The following members have volunteered to walk thru this call process and then come to the congregation to give the call if this is what is decided: Lloyd Boe, Karen Johnson, Don Peterson,Bruce Woullet, and Renee Compo are on the committee and are very open to any questions or concerns that you might have.We are tentatively schedule for April 19th to discuss the questions that we would like to ask Dan about the direction of his ministry, his view of how this might work etc. We also will be discussing potential barriers that might occur. We very much want your feedback and input. Copies of Dan’s proposal/vision can be found in the church office for your consideration. Renee Compo, Chair reneebcompo@msn.com
